Application Instructions
|
|
|
Surface Preparation
|
|
EPaint ZO is designed to go over any properly prepared surface. Do not apply E Paint ZO over soft
ablative coatings or unprimed metal. E Paint ZO is compatible with most existing bottom systems,
but consult your E Paint Company Representative for specific product compatibilities.
|
Previously Painted Surfaces
-
E Paint ZO may be applied over most existing bottom systems, but consult your E Paint Company
Representative for specific product compatibilities. The old antifouling paint must be secure, intact
and hydroblasted clean. Any loose or flaking material should be removed by sanding, hydroblasting
or washing the surface with vigorous abrasion. Wipe surface to remove stubborn contaminates and
sanding debris. Exposed metal surfaces must be primed with EP-Prime 1000 before application of
E Paint ZO. Apply E Paint ZO antifouling paint as per the instructions contained in this bulletin.
To renew old E Paint ZO, sand lightly and/or pressure wash to roughen surface and remove loose or
flaking paint. Wipe surface to remove stubborn contaminates and sanding debris. Exposed metal
surfaces must be primed before application of E Paint ZO. Apply E Paint ZO antifouling paint as per
the instructions contained in this bulletin.
|
Unpainted Surfaces
-
Bare metal surfaces must be abraded to a 2-3 mil profile and properly cleaned to remove salt, oils
and other contaminates. Metal should be primed with a high build corrosion inhibiting epoxy primer
before application of E Paint ZO, EP-Prime 1000 or equivalent. Consult your E Paint Company
Representative for recommendations regarding acceptable epoxy primers. Follow the manufacturer's
recommendations for dry times, film thicknesses and overcoating with an antifouling coating. Apply
E Paint ZO when the last coat of epoxy is tack-free but soft to finger pressure. If epoxy has cured,
apply an additional thin coat epoxy within recommended recoat intervals, and then apply E Paint ZO
as described above.
|
|
|
Mixing and Thinner
|
|
Power shake E Paint ZO. If power shaker is not available, thoroughly mix the product until a
homogenous blend results. Thinning is not recommended. Clean up with E Paint Thinner (EP 13) or
exact equivalent.
|
|
|
Application
|
E Paint ZO is formulated for easy application by roller or brush. Only apply E Paint ZO to clean, dry,
well prepared surfaces. Always paint under favorable painting conditions( >50 o F, 80%RH). Apply a
minimum of three coats of E Paint ZO. Service life is a direct function of film thickness. See
specification data for dry and launch times. Cooler temperatures will require increasing the minimum
times between coating and launching.
WARNING! DO NOT incorporate into this E Paint coating any thinner, additive, modifier, converter or related
product by any manufacturer other than E Paint. Any such substitution can jeopardize the unique chemical
characteristics of the E Paint product.
