Surface Preparation
|
EP21 is designed to go over any properly prepared surface. Do not apply EP21over soft ablative coatings or unprimed metal.
EP21 is compatible with most anticorrosive coatings, but consult your E Paint Company Representative for recommendations
regarding specific product compatibilities.
NOTE: Due to the nature of photoactive paints, darker colors may require periodic maintenance scrubbing.
|
Previously Painted Surfaces
-
EP21 may be applied over some existing antifouling systems but consult your E Paint Company Representative for
recommendations regarding compatibility. The old antifouling paint must be secure, intact, and hydroblasted clean. Any
loose or flaking material should be removed by sanding, hydroblasting, or washing the surface with vigorous abrasion. Wipe
surface with acetone to remove stubborn contaminates and sanding debris. Exposed metal surfaces should be reprimed
before recoating. To renew old EP21, sand lightly to roughen its surface and then apply new EP21 as per the instructions
contained in this bulletin.
|
Unpainted Surfaces
-
Metal surfaces should be properly cleaned and primed before applying EP21. Corrosion-inhibiting epoxy primers are
recommended to afford better protection to the hull. Consult your E Paint Company Representative for recommendations
regarding epoxy primers. Follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for dry times, film thickness, and overcoating
instructions. ApplyEP21 when the last coat of epoxy is tack free but still soft to finger pressure. A mist coat (0.5-1.0 mils wft)
should be applied prior to the application of the recommended three coat minimum. A thin mist coat is applied initially to
facilitate the adhesion and wetability of the following coats. If the epoxy has cured too hard, apply another thin coat of epoxy
within recommended recoat intervals, then apply EP21.

|
|
Mixing and Thinner
|
|
Power shake EP21. If power shaker is not available, thoroughly mix the product until a homogenous blend results.
Thinning is not recommended.
|
|
|
Application
|
EP21 is formulated for easy traditional painting techniques. Only apply EP21 to clean, dry, well-prepared surfaces. Apply
a minimum of three coats of EP21. Film thickness control is critical. Service life is a direct function of film thickness.
See specification data for data dry and launch times. Cooler temperatures may require increasing the minimum times
between coating and launching.
Warning! DO NOT incorporate into this E Paint coating any thinner, additive, modifier, converter, or related product by
any manufacturer other than E Paint. Any such substitution can jeopardize the unique chemical characteristics of the E
Paint product.
